Anthem Update

As many of you have heard in the news, on February 5, 2015, Anthem, Inc., a Blue Cross and Blue Shield company providing health insurance in 14 states including California and New York, reported a data breach. While Blue Cross Blue Shield NC is a separate company and their systems were not breached, it’s possible that some of their customers who live in or received care in Anthem’s service areas may have been impacted by the breach.

Anthem’s service areas include parts of the
following states:

• California • Colorado • Connecticut • Georgia • Indiana • Kentucky • Maine • Missouri • Nevada
• New Hampshire • New York • Ohio • Virginia • Wisconsin

BCBSNC is working with Anthem to determine whether the breach of their system impacted any BCBSNC members who live in or received care in Anthem’s service areas. BCBSNC will notify any member who is impacted and will offer credit monitoring and identify protection services. Anthem is a separate company with a separate technology system, and the breach occurred in their system – not Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina’s (BCBSNC). At this time, there is no indication that a breach has occurred at BCBSNC. BCBSNC has multiple layers of data security in place, and they actively monitor their systems on a regular basis. RPG Solutions clients will be contacted directly by their dedicated Account Manager following this update as appropriate. If necessary, your account manager will provide you specific information regarding your organization and what your next steps are. We do not anticipate any such impact for our clients. RPG is working closely with BCBSNC to stay on top of any developments regarding the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and will take several weeks to complete.
